Nicky Poznak, Pianist & Music Educator
BMus (Hons) Classical Piano Performance, Elder Conservatorium
|
Nicky Poznak is a classically trained pianist, educator, and accompanist based in Aberfoyle Park, Adelaide. Growing up in a family of professional musicians, Nicky developed a strong connection to music from an early age and began studying piano under the guidance of her father. Her dedication quickly became evident, earning her success in AMEB examinations and performance opportunities throughout her schooling years. By Year 8, she had completed her Certificate of Performance and was the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships in recognition of her musical achievements.
Nicky completed a Bachelor of Music (Advanced Classical Piano Performance) at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, graduating with First Class Honours in 2022. During her time at university, she was awarded multiple academic and performance-based scholarships, and remained an active performer in solo recitals, chamber ensembles, competitions, and concert series. Since 2023, Nicky has established a dynamic professional career as a soloist, collaborative pianist, and chamber musician, touring interstate and sharing her passion for classical repertoire with diverse audiences. Alongside her performance work, she is a committed and passionate educator, teaching students of all ages and abilities both privately and in school settings. Nicky’s teaching philosophy centres around building a strong technical foundation from the outset—emphasising healthy posture, hand position, and finger technique. She adopts a student-centred approach, tailoring lessons to the unique goals, strengths, and learning styles of each individual. Her students range from young beginners to advanced pianists, including those preparing for AMEB exams, school assessments, public performances, or simply learning for personal enrichment. She is experienced in working with students who are neurodivergent (including ASD and ADHD) as well as those for whom English is a second language. With younger students, Nicky often uses structured methods such as the Alfred and Hal Leonard series, while incorporating scales, technical exercises, and fun repertoire. For adult learners, she blends foundational music theory with accessible pieces that build confidence and enjoyment. She frequently creates custom arrangements of songs aligned with her students’ interests to help deepen engagement and musical understanding. While her background is rooted in classical music, Nicky also enjoys contemporary genres including pop, film music, and video game scores. She teaches from her home studio, which is equipped with both an upright and grand piano, and also offers lessons in students’ homes within a 20-minute radius of Aberfoyle Park.
